THE CACHE COUNTY FAIR 2011

Well the fair this year was amazing like usual. The kids did so well in each of there shows, animals placed and sold well, mom didn't fall off at the rodeo, JP's 4 up hitch drove really smooth, just overall it was a great week.
~ The fair started off with checking in at 10:00 am with lambs on Wend.
~ Thursday morning at 11:00 am, Ty and Virgil showed their lambs in the market class. Virgil did really well, placed 3rd in his class and just missed the grand champion cut off, but was pleased with his placing. Ty was in a little harder weight range and placed 5th in one class and 6th in the other with his two lambs. It was and is always a hard show, we have 320+ lambs entered in this show and there is only one grand champion. They then had pre-rodeo games and got to run the serpentine through the grand entry of the rodeo. I also flagged that night so it was fun to ride with my two oldest boys in the rodeo.
~ Friday is our crazy day. It started with horse shows at 9:00 am. Roanie and Maggie did Lead Line on Fred and Red and they both loved every minute of it. Fred has been our faithful mount for all the kids, in their first horse show and we were glad he made it for Roanies 1st show. (Fred is almost 40 years old) Maggie was so cute she waved and smiled at everyone and just had a blast. She really wanted to ride faster, but not in this show ring. Thanks to Aunt Sarah and Aunt Trisha for leading them. Shadie was in Walk-Trot 5-6 year olds and placed very well. She got to ride Red and is just a really good rider. Waylon showed Walk-Trot 7-8 year olds and he too did super. So dang cute out there on Spud, they both did excellent, he really as turned in to quit the little cowboy. Virgil and Ty both showed Freestyle Reining. Ty did his pattern to Indian Outlaw, and dressed him and Hunter up as an Indian Chief with his painted pony. Waylon dressed up as a buffalo so that Ty could spear him at the end of his pattern. Hunter ran a very good pattern and they made no mistakes. He placed 3rd in a huge class of 16 riders and the ages are 8-18 years old. This was Virgil's first year doing Freestyle and he loved it. He choose to do Davy Crockett, and dressed up as him and had furs and buckskins hanging all over his horse. Waylon dressed up as a bear, so that Virg could shoot him, when he was only three (get it, the song) He rode a new little horse named Rose and we were so proud of him. He and she both did really well and hit every point in the pattern, perfect. He placed 6th and was really pleased with his score. Over all the kids did great on their horses.
It was also mom's birthday so we had a Birthday picnic before the lamb show, Brittany, Mckenzie and Raiden came down to celebrate with us, and Tami and the kids came down a little later. Happy Birthday MOM! The lamb show started at Noon with pee-wee, Shadie and Waylon got to show in that class and loved being in the show ring. Virgil and Ty showed Showmanship and even though they had a very difficult judge, they still placed well and were happy with their placings. JP drove his teams through the grand entry of the rodeo with the parade of champions, I flagged again, and Waylon got to mutton-bust this year at the rodeo. He wanted to do it on Friday night, because it was Tough-enough-to wear Pink night. So he talked to the clown and had it announced that he was dedicating his ride to his Grandma Susan, who is a Breast Cancer survivor. It was so cute and he did really well, rode the sheep until it hit the fence and the clown yelled jump off, he then stood and waved, but there was a cute little girl that rode just a little bit further and her lamb did a jump and she was able to stay on. She only won by 2 points, but we told him, she was cute and you just can't compete with a cute girl like that. He was still super excited that he received a smaller trophy and that he was in the spot light for a little while.
~ Saturday is SELL day. Grandpa Lane and JP do the Fat Stock Sale, at the Cache County Fair and have done it for close to 40 years, along with Grandpa Dean. The boys animals sold very well (Thank you to all of the boys buyers and sponsors) as well as all the animals at the fair this year. A Big THANKS to the County for really stepping up and supporting this 4-H/FFA kids this year at the Fair. We really do appreciate it. We then hit the carnival, shops, displays and other 4-H entries. That night JP and I got to go to the rodeo with no kids. After I flagged we went and sat with some friends of ours and just had a very pleasant night. It was kind of sad to see the fair go this year. It always takes so much work to get there and it's really crazy while it's here and then it ends really sudden on Saturday night about 11:00 pm. It's sad for me because it just means that my kids are 1 year older, they are smarter, and are working their way to not needed mom & dad as much as I think they should. haha This year we let Ty and Virgil hang out with friends more on their own and that was a big step. They are good boys, that have good friends, but it is still scary. All and all this fair year was excellent and we couldn't have asked for a better year with our children's projects.
